Over the years I have read numerous technical papers regarding slitting theory and practice. So many of them, at least in my mind, lacked comprehensive analysis as to what was actually taking place during the slitting process and tends to be so generic that it can’t be actually applied.

We will attempt here to bring theory closer to application. Slitting is a discipline that requires years of experience before one can consistently achieve high productivity and consistent quality over a broad range of product.

With that said, the following article is the first in a series of articles designed to take a closer look at a variety of slitting topics.
